Week of October 13th

From the book "Of Beetles and Angels."

"Right now, we are among the poorest in the land. Neither your mother nor I will find good work because we lack schooling. We will have to work back-breaking jobs, we will never fully understand our rights, and others will take advantage of us.

But if you, our children, work hard at school and finish the University, maybe someday you can help yourselves and help your family, too."

Please don't take for granted the opportunities that you have here at St. Peter Claver. You can have fun, but make sure you work hard. Get your school work done and do your very best at your jobs. The education you receive over the next few years will in many ways determine your future. We are here to support you, but you have to do the work.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts in response to the first two writing assignments.

For this week please read the chapter "Libee Migbar." Also, start to think about ways that we can help solve some of the problems in our own community. How might we provide leadership?

Have a great week.
