For this week please read the chapter "Coming to America."
Also, I would like you to answer the following question and email your response to me.
"America seems sweet on top, like fresh honey straight from the comb. But what's sweet on the surface is often rotten underneath. So beware." These cautionary words were spoken to Mawi and his family after they decided to leave their homeland and head for America. America is a wonderful place, but it isn't without problems. I would like you to come up with two problems in America that you see on a daily basis. These could be things like poverty and racism or something else. Include in your answer how these problems have affected you or your family. Please be specific and cite examples. I want you to start thinking about the problems that exist in our society today. Your answer should be thoughtful and personal. I want you to spend some time really thinking about this question and your answer. Please ask your teachers, parents, or friends for help if necessary. Your response should be between 100-200 words.
